What is WHOIS or ID protection?

Posted April 2, 2016

WHOIS is a public identification tool that displays who registered a domain name and where it is currently pointed.

All registries require that you provide your information before purchasing a domain name. This includes your first and last names, organization, address, email and contact number.

To hide these information from the public, you have to enable ID/WHOIS protection for your domain names. You can do this in Client Portal > My Account > Domains > yourdomain.com > Manage Privacy. This only works for .com, .net, .org, .co, and .me.

ID protection may take a few hours and days to be cached by all WHOIS engines.
